Jonathan F. Maher Ph.D., MBA
Personal
Advanced Options,
Stocks,
e-mini Futures
I’ve been a personal
mentor since June of 2004. Since that time I have mentored many people in options
strategies, swing trading, day trading, and e-mini futures. Like most of you I
started out my career as something else. Educationally I have a Ph.D. in
Engineering and an MBA. I worked in High-Tech for 20 years holding many high
level managerial positions in development and marketing.
My first introduction to
trading was back in 1984 while working on my Ph.D. when I traded my first
stocks and options. Things were a lot different back then. I remember trading a
straddle on AAPL. I don’t think I really knew what I was doing.
I am mainly an options
trader now, and I tend to take a more conservative approach to trading
preferring “income strategies” which capitalize on time and
volatility such as Iron Condors and Calendar strategies. However students that
come to me range from people that are just getting ready to make their first
trade to experienced options traders with varying risk profiles and goals.
Mentoring
To me a mentor session
should be tailored to the individual. Each person’s knowledge and goals
are different as is their portfolio and risk tolerance. So if you are just
starting out or wanting to learn more about complex option plays I will help
you get to the next level.
Your head may be spinning
with information overload. I will help you to focus on what’s important
in a comfortable and practical way.
We’ll look at how to
mine for potential trades, discuss how to best take advantage of what we find
by using stocks or options or combinations of the two. Finally we’ll work
on the hardest part, managing the trade once we are in it. This last part is
probably the most difficult part of learning to trade successfully. Once in
when do we get out? How do we manage our stops and when should we take profit?
How does all this work with a vertical or calendar spread trade? The answer to
these questions can be as diverse as the individuals that trade so we’ll
focus on strategies that work for you.
It all starts with a contact so please email me at Doc@DocMaherTrading.com and
let’s start the conversation.
Here is a comment from Nicole Wachs, Director of
Education at TradeKing:
“Jonathan and I were vendors to the same company. One of Jonathan's
talents is that he can assess almost any situation faster than anyone else I
have ever met. His ability to read people and interpret circumstances are uncanny. These skills lead him to be a great problem
solver. He is also a good listener and highly skilled instructor. He easily
conveys complicated concepts to all kinds of users. I would highly recommend
him.” August 10, 2007
Here are some comments that former students have
made:
“Jonathan Maher is a very intelligent individual who is able to
easily grasp a complicate issue. Furthermore, Jonathan is capable of conveying
the same in simple terms so that a novice can comprehend the subject matter. I
have first hand knowledge as Jonathan and I meet together in a local investment
groups organized for the purpose of trading options, including complicated
strategies such as iron condors, butterflies, double calendars and double
diagonals. In one investment group that I chair, Jonathan has explained
difficult option strategies to our members such that we have an understanding
of the same. Thanks to Jonathan’s help and teaching we have been able to
focus our energies, understand option strategies; and most importantly, achieve
positive results in our investments. Lastly, Jonathan’s has an effective
teaching style in which he first explains a concept and then in subsequent
meetings challenges his students with key questions regarding the concept so
that they can learn by answering the questions and thus more quickly stand on
their own two feet.” October 10, 2007

“Jonathan is an extremely bright and talented trader. Jonathan has an
excellent understanding of the stock market and options. Jonathan possess a unique blend of high technical knowledge but also
has the ability to bring this information down to the level of a beginner.
Jonathan has shared several trading ideas with me that have worked out very
well. Jonathan would be an excellent teacher for those who wish to take their
trading to the next level. Besides Jonathan's skills as a trader, he is also a
very nice person who is sincerely interested in having his students be just as
successful a trader as he is.” October 12, 2007
